Notes on rose gold

Normally I work in yellow gold, but recently I've had the chance to work with more rose gold. Here are some of the interesting notes I've collected along the way!

Oxidation

Rose gold can oxidise with time to look more yellow. To help bring back the original colour, go to your local jeweller for a polishing touch-up.

Luminance

After working with the Peony Charm in both colours, I noticed that rose gold throws darker shadows than yellow gold. This means that rose gold will show more crispy details, but it will also have look less bright (especially under indoor lighting) compared to yellow gold. However, I think this is really only noticeable if you're wearing highly detailed designs in both colours at the same time.

Durability

18K rose gold is difficult to cast well, and has a higher risk of porosity (i.e. brittleness in the casting). If you're looking at rose gold jewellery made via casting (rather than fabrication), 14K is a more reliable choice!
