About the Imperfect Sapphire

The centre sapphire is completely unique with a soft, cloudlike appearance, selected for its beautifully unique misty colour and surprising blue flash under direct sunlight.

Stone Sourcing

The sapphire in this ring was originally mined in the Luc Yen region; purchased directly from a woman-owned gem business in Vietnam. It is an unheated and untreated misty white sapphire, with rutile inclusions that give it a faint lavender or bluish glow under direct light.

About Natural Gemstones, Crystal Structure, and Inclusions

The sapphire contains two minor imperfections. There is a small chip to the back of the stone, invisible when worn. On the face of the stone, there are two thin scratches, visible only under magnification (they cannot be felt with a fingernail).

These tiny imperfections appear to be a natural consequence of the stone's size, shape, and inner crystal structure (rutile inclusions). Under pressure from the stone-setting process, these internal crystal structures appear to have be pushed upward through the sapphire, eventually reaching the surface!

Now, this is not ideal, but fortunately, it's very minor and nearly invisible! Such surface-reaching inclusions also tend to remain stable, as long as there is no more extreme pressure applied to the ring (the type of pressure used during goldsmithing). For this reason, I also recommend against having this ring resized.
